A lot of folks have asked about the skinability ( is that a word? ) of the UI. It's a good question, and the answer is easy:
The UI is very very skinnable
One thing we've tried very hard to keep in mind during development is that ultimately, what you (the end users) want is the most important thing, and that releasing a product which isn't flexible enough to be customized to suit your desires just wouldn't be fair to you. So we have designed the skinning engine to allow for customization of everything we could think of, from images, to layout, to effects, to workflow etc.. We like to think of it not so much as a skinning engine, but more as a full UI development framework and widget toolkit. That doesn't really roll off the tongue however, so we'll stick to "skinning engine" for now :)
In the coming days, we'll get more technical information out to you guys about how it all works, so all you experienced skinners, and skinners-to-be out there can start to think about what sorts of cool things you'd like to do with it. We've been trying to think of some ways to get everyone involved and the idea of having some skinning competitions came up. I'd like to open up this topic for feedback, so if you think it would be worthwhile please speak up :)

Please just don't make a win-only gui for editing skins.. xml/whatever + png for the win! :)

Awesome news guys!! Have 2 say I only just get more excited the more I read about this! Keep up the great work. Just was curious, what would the ideal image size be to create for the GUI and what type of format .jpg, .bmp etc?
Thanks guys!!
P.s. Should I just revert to the forum next time if I have a question?

I'm very excited about the skinnability! Thanks for not locking us into one UI! Hardware/software seperability is the bestest. Also, I second the whole non-windows skin editor thing. One of the main selling points of the DS-X (at least for me) is that patching is not necessary, so, as a mac owner, it makes it very appealing for me.

Hiya.
Do you think it would be possible to record movies from the DS? Currently there is no good way (apart form using a webcam, which sucks) of recording parts of games, while a lot of people (including me) would be interested in this feature.
The produced clip could be written on the SD card, which in turn can be exported to the PC. I'm not sure it's technically possible but man would that be awesome and useful.
Btw, already got mine pre-ordered a while ago!
